Have you have been in a cycle where you feel that you are constantly chasing the pain and the problem but you never seem to get to the root of what is causing it? Do you feel like your back pain and movement problems keep recurring?
Sarah treats people with many different types of conditions ranging from serious injuries, traumas, aches and pains, scar work, pre and post surgery rehabilitation to teaching good movement. Each treatment journey is individualised, so there is no set formula.
Past injuries and trauma
As a result of past injuries, traumas, surgeries and changes in movement patterns, no matter how long ago these might have been, we can develop muscle compensation patterns that can lead to pain and movement problems if unresolved. These changes in the body can lead to imbalances where, for example, some muscles become overactive and others become underactive. Identifying and rebalancing these patterns is key.
Reduce pain and improve function
By working with the neurological system (brain) and the musculoskeletal system together the co-ordination system of the brain can be improved. It can re-learn optimal muscle patterns and movements that have been forgotten due to compensations, reduce pain and movement problems and improve function.
My experience with Neurokinetic Therapy
When I began learning Neurokinetic Therapy we began with the ‘Powerhouse’, also known as the core. I was astounded to discover that my core was not working optimally, which was a little embarrassing as a Pilates instructor. It wasn’t that my muscles weren’t strong but they were not co-ordinating with my nervous system to work effectively causing neck pain and reduced movement with certain Pilates exercises. Through testing I found out that my c-section scar (16 years old) was interfering with the communication of the nervous system and the muscular system. Following treatment and home care I have been able to remove the negative effect my scar and perform exercises with additional stability and no neck pain.
